Cause of Snoring

Snoring is one of the common problems in America, and in just about any other part of the world. A lot of people are interested in finding the perfect cure for snoring. But to get to this part, you actually have to dig deeper and find the cause of snoring first. Without the cause, your search for the cure would not be properly guided at all.

So, what is the cause of this common problem? There are actually a number of common causes brought about by experts on the matter. But the most basic of all here is the airway being blocked. What causes the typical snoring sound is actually vibration. Your throat and your soft palate rub together, causing a blockage in your airway. When air tries to get through this blockage, vibration is then caused. Thus, the snoring sound is then produced.

With this in mind, the next step is to determine reasons for your airway getting blocked. One simple reason behind this is your sleeping position. Sleeping on your back actually places you in that certain position where your tongue can easily slip backwards. Once this happens, your tongue would be blocking air passage down your throat. So, this is one of the causes you should look out for.

Another cause of snoring is the typical weight problem. Overweight people have a lot of fat building up round the neck, making it heavier than usual. With this extra weight on the throat, air flow is then restricted all the more.

While on the subject of food, eating when it is so close to bedtime already can also cause snoring. When you sleep, all of your bodily processes slow down significantly, and your digestive system is not an exception. So, when you eat right before you sleep, your digestive system is unable to process food as thoroughly as you would want it to. Thus, there will be pressure exerted onto your diaphragm from the presence of undigested food in your stomach. This, in turn, causes you to snore.

Stress is also a prominent cause of snoring. When you lead a stressful lifestyle, your muscles become too tense and too tight at the end of the day. When you sleep, this tautness manifests itself in the form of snoring. Thus, it is very important to be able to relax as much as possible. This way, your body will have ample time to replenish itself for another hard day at work or at school.
