Snoring

Snoring is quite a common problem these days. A lot of people think this is just a minor problem; many people even just laugh it off. But then again, this can very well be a sign that there is a problem of a more serious nature involved here.

If you think that the more serious problem here is the lack of sleep that the people near you would be experiencing, well, it is not just that. What’s more serious here is that snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a condition when you would actually stop breathing while you are asleep. Now, sleep apnea is not your ordinary problem that you can just push away. In an ordinary night of sleep, a person can stop breathing for a relative number of times. There are even people who can stop breathing up to a hundred times in just one night. Worse, when people stop breathing, this pause can last close to a minute. If you have sleep apnea, this can lead to a number of health conditions as well. These include daytime sleepiness, fatigue, tiredness, and even hypertension, to some extent. Hypertension can be attributed to the fact that you are not getting enough oxygen because of your snoring problem.

In general, there are close to 12 million people that are affected with sleep apnea. And this is just in America alone. Most of these people are overweight and older than 40 years. However, females and children can also be affected with sleep apnea. Weight is not really an issue here because there are also people affected with the condition who are not overweight at all.

If you have suspicions about having sleep apnea, then do not hesitate to consult your physician. A series of tests might be needed, and there is even a possibility that you would need the service of a sleep clinic. The sleep clinic will do some evaluation while you sleep inside the facility.

But if it is determined that you do not really suffer from sleep apnea, then you should still get to the bottom of the problem. Most likely, there is still another underlying factor for your snoring. A common sinus problem can be the cause of this condition. Once the sinus problem is dealt with, then the snoring problem just might be resolved as well.

There are certain remedies you can try to fix this problem. You can try staying in a side position when you sleep. Or, you can lose weight. You can also exercise regularly. Exercise is always good for the health, so you will be hitting a lot of birds with one stone here.
